Primary care interventions in poverty

Poverty is a significant risk factor for poor health. Dr. Gary Bloch, a family physician in Toronto, has developed Poverty: A Clinical Tool for Poverty in Ontario to help primary care providers address poverty with their clients. The clinical tool describes how to screen, adjust risk and intervene to help clients living in poverty.

The Ontario College of Family Physicians has published Primary Care Interventions in Poverty, which includes Dr. Bloch's poverty clinical tool, as well as a poverty clinical tool to use with children, brochures for clients about income and income supports, and information about accredited Treating Poverty workshops for family physicians.

In this TEDx talk, Dr. Gary Bloch talks about how he came to the idea of "presribing money" and suggests practical ways family doctors can treat poverty.

This talk was organized by TEDxStouffville.
