American researcher, Elissa Epel, has several studies on the go, trying to find ways to mitigate the harmful effects of stress on DNA. Her work is based on research that links stress with shorter telemeres - a part of DNA associated with cellular aging and disease. Her studies include testing the effects of aerobic exercise on telemerase (an enzyme that can restore telemeres), how to improve stress reduction through mindfulness training, and a mindful stress reduction and mindful eating intervention for pregnant women. You can read more about Epel's work and the links between stress and DNA in this American Psychological Association article.
