Personalized medicine: Pharmacogenetics
Pharmacogenetics refers to customized drug therapy based on a person's genetic profile. Clinicians use a DNA profile to prescribe medications that consider drug-drug interactions, metabolism and other factors. Dr. James Kennedy, head of Neuroscience Research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), offers a continuing education course on pharmacogenetics in mental health and addiction. In these videos, he introduces pharmacogenetics and talks with Candi Gogar, research legal cousel at CAMH, about legal considerations of pharmacogenetics.
