Are antidepressants safe during pregnancy?

Three new studies have raised concerns about the use of antidepressants by pregnant women. Up to 14 per cent of pregnant women take antidepressants and while one of them carries a warning of birth defects - paroxetine (Paxel) - the others have been seen as less dangerous than depression during pregnancy. New research is challenging that assumption and showing links between maternal antidepressant use and developmental disorders and preterm births. You can read more about the research in this New York Times article
