Mental health survey suggests young adults under increasing stress

Results from an ongoing survey of adults by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health suggest that young adults are under increasing stress. While there was an overall increase in self-rated poor mental health, from 4.7 per cent in 2003 to 7.1 per cent in 2013, the most dramatic increase was seen in adults aged 18 - 29. That group reported an increase in poor mental health from 3 per cent in 2009 to 12 per cent in 2013.

The survey also found that 2.2 per cent of Ontarians considered suicide in the last year, that cannabis use is increasing and that non-medical prescription opioid use is declining.

You can read about the survey in this CBC article or in this CAMH news release.
