Study identifies how child abuse influences adult health
New research has identified the mechanism by which child abuse influences adult health. The study, published in the journal Child Development, shows how genes are turned on and off in reaction to their environment through a biochemical process known as methylation. Research has shown that people who experienced physical or sexual abuse or neglect as children are more likely to develop mood, anxiety and aggressive disorders as well as cardiac disease and cancer as adults.
