Why Gender Inclusive Language Matters for Health Equity

This webinar explains key concepts of gender inclusivity and gender inclusive language and provides an overview of the importance of gender inclusivity in health care. Health Quality Ontario (HQO) recognizes the importance of supporting gender inclusivity in health care settings and, as a result, is developing internal best practice guidelines regarding gender inclusive language. Its initiative builds on recent work by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and the Canadian Association of Midwives.
About the Presenter
Laura Anderson, MPH, PhD is the Lead on the Health Equity team at HQO where she is currently supporting the development of the Northern Ontario Health Equity Strategy. Laura has over a decade of experience in community-based and population health research and policy. Prior to her current position at HQO, Laura was a Researcher at the Wellesley Institute, where her work focused on household food insecurity and food access in Toronto, and access to and utilization of healthcare services for immigrants and refugees in Ontario.
