This will be the new home for some of the old content from CAMH Knowledge Exchange (or Knowledgex) that's still being used by site visitors. We want to keep it available, but be clear that the material has not been reviewed or revised since the date indicated.

Knowledgex will be decommissioned in early December 2015, and will no longer be available.

Check back as we'll be adding more each week.

Methadone Treatment

  • Methadone Maintenance Treatment: Client Handbook
CAMH's successful guide for clients in MMT addresses many questions that come up over the course of treatment. The plain language guide is useful for people who are new to MMT and to those who have been in the maintenance phase of treatment for some time. People who are close to MMT clients and who have questions and concerns about the program will also find this to be a useful resource.

  • Methadone Maintenance Treatment Overview
Combines content originally written for CAMH Knowledgex with materials from earlier publications.
The Assessment and Treatment section is adapted from: Chapter 7, "Assessment and Treatment Planning," in G. Martin et al. (eds.), Methadone Maintenance: A Counsellor's Guide to Treatment (© 2003 CAMH)

Screening

  • Screening for Concurrent Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders in Youth
Screening for Concurrent Substance Use and Mental Health Problems in Youth sumarizes the results of a CAMH research project that reviewed screening tools for use with children and adolescents. The report includes detailed information sheets for each of the 20 most promising, well-validated and reliable tools.

Primary Care

  • The Buprenorphine/Naloxone for Opioid Dependence: Clinical Practice Guideline PDF provides clinical recommendations for the initiation, maintenance and discontinuation of buprenorphine/ naloxone maintenance treatment in patients with opioid dependence in Ontario. The guideline will help educate practitioners in opioid prescribing, improve access to treatment for opioid dependence and lead to the safer prescribing and dispensing of buprenorphine/ naloxone. This clinical practice guideline was developed by a multidisciplinary committee that included specialists in addiction medicine, family medicine and pharmacy. A systematic review of the literature formed the evidence base for this guideline, and recommendations were assigned levels of evidence and grades of recommendations based on those developed by the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care.

Smoking and Quitting: Clean Air for All

  • Why do my parents smoke when they know it's bad for them?
  • When there is smoking around me, how can I protect myself?
  • Why can't people just quit?
  • When I grow up, will I smoke too?

Lots of kids share these concerns when people they care about do something dangerous to their health, such as smoke cigarettes.
