Opioid Basics

 

This self-directed, online course is comprised of two modules that will increase your knowledge and understanding of opioid use and treatment for problematic opioid use.

Each module takes approximately 60 minutes to complete, and can be accessed for free by clicking on the links below. 

 

Module 1: Opioid Basics 

At the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • define opioids.
  • appreciated the intended uses and classifications of opioids.
  • recognize the signs and symptoms of opioid withdrawal.
  • analyze the use and problematic use of opioids in Ontario. 

 

Module 2: Treatment approaches and recovery 

At the end of this module, you will understand:

  • the stages of change
  • harm reduction
  • treatment approaches
  • withdrawal strategies
  • how to support recovery

 

The course was adapted from a resource developed in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Timiskaming Addictions and Mental Health, and the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre Oasis Program.
