The overcoat a Canadian musical play follows Nikolai' Gogol s story rather well, til the last act., when Akakiy , Gogol's character instead of killing himself and coming back as a ghost loses his mind and is seen being strapped in a straight-jacket in a psychiatric asylum ward. while a nurse jerks her seringe in time with the mad chorus and the music.!
I was in shock, the more so because no one else in the audience seemed to object, the reviewer had not mentioned this "anachronism", , the play ran from March 27 to April 14 in Toronto .It reopens April 28 at the Vancouver Playhouse..
