Problem gambling is associated with high levels of comorbidity with various mental health and substance use disorders, including:
- mood disorders (38%)
- nicotine use (60%)
- anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder (37%)
- substance use disorders (57%)
- major depression (23%).
Research has also found an increased prevalence of problem gambling among people who take dopamine agonists such as Mirapex (pramipexole), which are commonly used for Parkinson's disease.
